The ancient Mayas baptized this wonderful place with the name of "XEL-HA". "XEL" means spring or the place where something is born and "HA" means water, "place where the water is born".

The place was used in pre-hispanic times as a safe port, for trading and as a religious center.

The legend tells that the Mayan Gods joined their wisdom, their illusions and their love for beauty to create something that would reunite the best nature could offer in one place. That is how XEL-HA was born. Once it was created, the Gods were so pleased with their work that they decided to allow the mortals to enjoy it.
